Carlos Monreal

Founder & Chairman

Carlos Monreal is the Founder and Chairman of Plastic Energy, one of the world’s leading chemical recycling companies, with industrial plants in operation for over 10 cumulative years. He is an engineer by training and has been a serial entrepreneur for more than 35 years, focusing on developing disruptive technologies and innovative solutions in the sustainability sector. He has founded a wide range of companies whose activities include the development of precision farming and machine control of fleet management, as well as an EPC company on renewable energy. Carlos is the founder and president of Green Dot Global, a company focused on recycling and sustainability of packaging, who has recently acquired Der Grüne Punkt (The Green Dot) in Germany to increase packaging circularity. Carlos is also the founder and CEO of Greenland Capital, a company with the vision to identify and develop new technologies that provide sustainable and economical solutions to the growing challenges of waste and water management, and alternative energy management.

David McNamara

Chief Technology Officer

For over a decade David has been leading the development of the ground-breaking technology and his wide-ranging responsibilities include creating and executing Plastic Energy’s technology roadmap to structuring multiple high-profile, strategic partnerships across the world.

David has written a series of patents for the organisation, awarded in EU & US.

He has worked in a broad variety of senior leadership roles over 20 years across telecommunications, construction, waste and recycling. David has a joint honours degree in Chemistry and Polymer Chemistry with Technology from Loughborough University.


Bruno Guillon

Chief Commercial Officer

Having an extensive international business development and management experience, Bruno is a forward thinking leader used to operate in a multicultural environment. As CEO or MD, he had several times a profit and loss responsibility and demonstrated his capacity to drive a profitable growth in a multi-channel distribution and franchise environment. Bruno has a proven track-record in setting a strategic direction. His strong financial and marketing background allows him to organize the execution, delivering sustained profitable performance and a world class customer experience. He is a charismatic leader and a strong team builder.


Ying Staton

Chief Sustainability Officer

Ying Staton is the Chief Sustainability Officer at Plastic Energy. She also leads Plastic Energy’s corporate development in Asia, focusing on strategy, business development and finance, from the company’s Asian base in Singapore.

She started her career in the British government, where she led research in 10 Downing St under Prime Minister David Cameron and served a number of roles in the UK Department for Transport and Department for International Development, including a year working with the UN on the predecessor to the SDGs and 2 years delivering UK aid programmes in Uganda. After leaving government, she was Head of Asia at strategic advisory firm Global Counsel for 6 years, where she advised multinational companies on cross-border trade and investment issues across Europe, Asia and Africa, with a focus on commodities and sustainability.

Ying graduated summa cum laude with a B.A. in Classics and English from Oxford University and holds an M.A. in East Asian Studies from Yale University, where she was a Henry Fellow. She is fluent in English and Mandarin Chinese, and a CFA Level 2 candidate.


Ian Temperton

Interim CEO

Ian has 25 years’ experience in the energy sector focussing on clean energy financing. He was a Managing Director at the investment and advisory firm Climate Change Capital for 11 years.

He sits on the Advisory Board of the UK Energy Research Centre. He hold a M.A. and M.Eng. in engineering from Cambridge University, an M.Sc. in finance from London Business School, and he is a former Visiting Business Fellow at the Smith School for Enterprise and the Environment at Oxford University.


Jean-Christophe Lesguillier

Chief Operating Officer

JC has over 25 years of experience in the petrochemicals industry with ExxonMobil, holding senior managerial positions in manufacturing, sales and marketing as well as projects and business developments across all regions. His career to date has involved leadership role in managing plant operations, business and industrial project developments. JC strives for results and constant improvements in his work, combining strategy learning approach and disciplined and risks managed execution. In July 2019, JC was appointed as Project Manager for Advanced Recycling Solutions in France for the Alliance to End Plastic Waste.

JC holds a chemical engineering degree from Lyon (France) Chemical Engineering School and a Master of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of New Brunswick (Canada).


Shaun Mercer

Chief Financial Officer

Shaun has 20 years of experience working in senior finance and investment related roles, with extensive exposure across chemicals, manufacturing and industrial technology oriented businesses.

Prior to Plastic Energy, Shaun was a Managing Director at The Carlyle Group, which he joined in 2005, advising on European buyout opportunities. Over the course of his time with Carlyle, Shaun was actively involved in a number of Carlyle’s most significant investments. In particular he was engaged with the Boards of Atotech (where he remains a Director), Nouryon (formerly AkzoNobel Specialty Chemicals), Axalta (formerly DuPont Performance Coatings), AZ Electronic Materials, and Ensus.

Prior to joining Carlyle, Mr. Mercer was at Morgan Stanley, where he spent four years working in corporate finance and M&A as part of the Global Industrials Group. During this period, he also spent time working in Mumbai, India, managing the investment banking operations of Morgan Stanley Advantage Services.

Shaun received a B.A. with honours from Cambridge University, where he was a Taylor Scholar.


Greg Joynson

General Counsel

Greg Joynson is Plastic Energy's General Counsel.

Greg studied Law at the University of Manchester and attended Nottingham Law School. He is qualified as a solicitor in England and Wales.


Frank Robertson

Chief Licensing Officer

Frank has over 38 years’ experience in the petrochemicals area with BP and Amoco, holding senior roles in Sale & Marketing, Research & Technology Business Management and Licensing. Positions were held in the UK, Switzerland, USA, Belgium and Indonesia, managing businesses with turnovers greater than $500m pa.

Frank has an honours degree in Chemistry and a PhD in polymer chemistry both from Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh. During his career with BP/Amoco he published more than 20 technical papers and holds multiple patents.


Alberto Medina

Chief Operational Readiness Officer

Alberto has worked for the past 20 years in the operating and maintaining of large industrial facilities. The first 10 years of his career were in the oil & gas sector, working for one of the main Spanish companies. From 2009 on, Alberto’s focus shifted to the development of the renewable energies sector, (mainly solar energy and biofuels). He was initially involved in operations roles as a process engineer, growing responsibilities and team management from the very beginning, to the point that he assumed the responsibility of a 250,000 barrels/day crude oil field Production Department (in Algeria). For the rest of his career, his duties expanded to asset management, occupying asset management positions including other key areas of direct responsibility such as maintenance, finance, HR, and QHSE. He was also involved in the transition from EPC phase into consolidated O&M phase for all his projects. Alberto has a commitment to H&S policies, and has been directly involved in the implementation of these throughout his management and O&M duties.

He holds a degree in Industrial Engineering and a Master’s in the same subject from the Universidad de Sevilla, a Master’s degree in Safety at Work from the Seville Commerce Chamber, an Executive MBA and an HSE and Psyco-sociology Master’s degree.


Frazer Mackay

Chief Projects Officer

Frazer has over 30 years of experience in business and project delivery across a broad range of industrial sectors both in the UK and overseas. Much of this time has been spent in Contracting and Consulting businesses serving petrochemical customers.

His career to date has involved leadership, strategy development, change management, business development and client engagement / relationship management as well as project development, execution and commissioning. Working to improve operating assets has been a constant feature.

He is a passionate advocate for safety, quality and compliance whilst also striving to achieve business outcomes and drive stakeholder value. Frazer has a first in Mechanical Engineering, is a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and is an Associate Fellow of the Institution of Chemical Engineers.


Carlos Prieto

Managing Director Spain

Carlos has a unique experience working for 20 years in both developing companies in the
telecommunications and energy sectors, and in representing and supporting businesses mature through his 12 years’ experience as senior manager for the Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Services of Madrid.

Prior to his experience in the Chamber of Commerce of Madrid, Carlos developed a significant expertise from his managing director positions launching new telecommunications technologies – such as the ONO fiber optic and AMENA third mobile operator in Spain – and leading the marketing and business development for CEPSA, Spanish Petroleum Company. Carlos is also the founder and managing partner of the Computer and Telecommunications company CMB SIS S.L. and of the marketing consultancy Logro y Acción Comercial, S.L.

Over his career, Carlos has been highly involved in various Boards of Directors, including: IFEMA,
(International Fair of Madrid), INE (National Statistics Institute), AVALMADRID (Financial reciprocal guarantee company), CEPREDE (Economic Forecasting Centre), CLM (Madrid Laboratory Centre), ICC (International Chamber of Commerce).

Carlos holds a BSc Degree in Economics and Business Administration from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and is a postgraduate professor in the Instituto de Formación Empresarial, teaching leadership and business organisation.


Rajesh Kumar

Finance Director

Rajesh Kumar, a Chartered Accountant, has over 17 years experience gained within audit, oil and gas and utilities sectors. He worked for Interconnector (UK) Limited and Bristol Water plc in different senior finance positions before moving to Plastic Energy. Along with running finance functions in his previous roles, he also worked on business transformation initiatives around corporate and financial restructures, end to end business process redesign, system implementation and business cost rationalisation.

Prior to Bristol Water and Interconnector, he worked for KPMG and Ernst & Young for over 8 years and performed audits and due diligences within energy, oil & gas, retail and telecommunication sectors.


Susan Fitzsimons

Head of Communications

Susan has 10 years of experience in the marketing and communications field, starting her career in the charity sector, working for Oxfam Ireland, before moving on to the corporate world to join a digital marketing consultancy. Throughout her career she has focused on events, digital marketing, and communications for companies across the legal, advertising, and sustainability sectors in both the US and UK. Before joining Plastic Energy in 2020, Susan worked as a Marketing and Brand Manager for London-based sustainability consultancy, the Carbon Trust, and lead marketing and comms for a programme for small businesses to become more sustainable.

Susan holds a B.A. in Communications and Social Science from the University of Central Florida, and an LL.M. in International Human Rights Law from the National University of Ireland, Galway.


Lauren Versagli

Head of Corporate Development - USA

Lauren leads corporate development at Plastic Energy in North America.

She brings a strong background from the chemical industry and a track record of success in building teams and delivering collaborative solutions. Her core responsibilities include defining the company’s strategy and developing partnerships across the value chain that result in circular projects for plastic waste. Prior to joining Plastic Energy, Lauren worked at Hach as a global business unit manager and for more than 10 years at the Dow Chemical Company in the US and Europe.

She received her MBA from IMD in Switzerland and her BS in Mechanical Engineering from Penn State University in the USA.


Adela Putinelu

Head of Policy

Adela is the Head of Policy for Plastic Energy, leading the work on policy strategy and engagement with key stakeholders. Her work is primarily focused on EU and national regulations associated to chemical recycling, plastic recycling and the circular economy.

She has a Master of Science in Environmental Technology from Imperial College London and has worked for the past ten years on environmental policy related to plastics sustainability and climate mitigation. Previously, Adela worked for the British Plastics Federation as Senior Sustainability Executive and for environmental campaigning organisations in London and Brussels. Adela is passionate about sustainability and driving the transition to a net-zero and circular economy.


Sneha Hingorani

Head of Licensing - Asia

Sneha has been part of the oil and gas industry for over twenty years and has built expertise in strategy, licensing, and business development. She joins Plastic Energy from BP and latterly for Ineos. For the last 10 years, as a senior leader in BP Petrochemicals, she was responsible for growth and expansion of licensing business globally. Her responsibilities also included new technology commercialization. She has led and delivered multimillion dollar projects including grass roots company owned projects, joint ventures, acquisitions, and divestments. Prior to joining BP and doing her MBA, Sneha worked as a Research Chemist with Waste Management, Inc in Chicago.

Sneha has an Honours M.Sc. in Organic Chemistry from University of Bombay and an MBA from Loyola University, Chicago.


Dr. Karl Altenburg

Vice Chairman

Karl worked more than 25 years in Investment Banking. Until June 2016 he was Co-Head Corporate Finance Europe, Middle East & Africa at Deutsche Bank in London and a member of its Corporate Banking & Securities Executive Committee.
Prior to that Karl worked over a period of 20 years for JPMorgan, in New York and London in various roles in Capital Markets and Corporate Finance and from 2005 to 2014 in Frankfurt as CEO for Germany, Austria & Switzerland.

In 2000 he co-founded Inquam Ltd, a specialist provider of professional mobile telecommunication services, for which he served as CFO until 2004. Karl serves as a Senior Advisor to Citigroup and member of its EMEA Advisory Board.

He holds a degree in engineering from RWTH Aachen and a doctorate in technical science from the University of Technology in Vienna.


Ralf Huep

Member of the Board

From 1991 to 2019, Ralf has been with Advent International, a world leading private equity firm.
Throughout the years he led over 35 investments. His function as Managing Partner included multiple investment committees and for 7 years he was Co-Head of the Executive Committee at Advent International. Prior to joining Advent, Ralf was a Financial Analyst at Veba AG, a German industrial and energy conglomerate and a Project Manager in the Mergers and Acquisitions department of Continental AG, a leading European tyre manufacturer. Ralf has a degree in Business Administration from the University of Bielefeld. Most recently he has been building a portfolio of private companies among which is also a shareholder in PLASTIC ENERGY.


Alan Eisner

Member of the Board

Alan Eisner has been a Board Member at Plastic Energy since 2019.

Alan Eisner is currently Deputy Chairman of Millennium Global, where he first joined in 2000 as a Senior Managing Director. He initially co-managed the currency investment team before becoming Chief Risk Officer (2011 to 2014) and was a member of the firm’s management committee.

Before joining Millennium Global, Alan was Chief Investment Officer of Trinity Asset Management where he managed Trinity’s Emerging Currency Fund and prior to that a vice president at Salomon Brothers International Limited. At Salomon he worked on the foreign exchange sales and trading desks in New York, London and Singapore.

Alan is also the Chairman of the Advisory Board of MillTechFX.

Alan served as Maggie’s Chairman between 2018 and 2021. He was awarded an OBE (Officer of the British Empire) for services to Charitable Fundraising in the 2023 New Year Honours.

Alan holds an MA in Economic History from the University of Edinburgh.


Tim Summers

Member of the Board

Tim Summers is the Managing Partner of L1 New Energy. Prior to joining LetterOne, Tim has over 30 years of experience including multiple Chair, Board and Executive roles in manufacturing, engineering services and the energy sector in a variety of public and privately-owned businesses. He has lived and worked in South America, the Middle East and Russia, as well as in continental Europe.

Tim is a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of both the Institute of Chemical Engineers and the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining. He has a degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Manchester.


David Megan

Member of the Board

David Megan, a Fellow of The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland, has over 35 years experience in general and financial management, mainly gained in the Technology Industry. He is currently a Member of the Board of Directors for Plastic Energy Group (Waste Plastic to Plastic Technology), Transpoco (Vehicle Telematics) and Uleska (Software Security). He previously worked in Telecom Software companies such as Accuris, Aldiscon, Apion and Aepona which were successfully grown and sold. Previous roles included financial management positions in Murray Telecommunications Group Limited and The OHM Group.


Juan Butragueño

Member of the Board

Juan has a long experience as corporate and international lawyer, being member of the Madrid Bar Association for more than 30 years. He has developed his career in big and medium size international law firms, and at present is managing partner of his own law firm. He is official arbitrator of the Court of Arbitration Madrid´s Chamber of Commerce. He joined Plastic Energy in January 2016.
