The
Plastic Waste Problem
and current challenges
Our modern lifestyles thrive on the lightweight and durable protection that plastic packaging offers. Unfortunately, only a very small amount of plastic is recycled….
Much more is needed to address the plastic pollution problem. Efforts to reduce plastic consumption and to boost re-use of plastic, plastic waste collection, sorting, and recycling capabilities need to increase. Plastic Energy plays a key role in recycling plastic waste and developing a circular plastic economy.

proof of concept
for plastic-to-plastic Recycling
We work with the entire value-chain to develop a circular economy for plastic waste. A collaboration with partner SABIC enabled the launch and commercialisation of the first food-grade packaging with recycled content from chemical recycling (rPP) on the European market in October 2019, for Unilever’s Magnum ice cream tubs.

In 2022, we announced a collaboration with Heinz, Tesco, SABIC and Berry Global to develop Heinz Beanz Snap Pots, made from 39% recycled soft plastic, collected from customers at Tesco’s in-store collection points.
The move to make soft plastics into food-grade, microwavable snappable pots that can be returned into the kerbside recycling loop is believed to be a world first.
